This ridge hike is stunning and features views of all of the summits of the Pemi Loop, views into Franconia Notch, and even views of Mount Washington. Driving through New Hampshire on a beautiful day is its very own activity. These were originally built by Laura and Guy Waterman, the first volunteer trail maintainers on Franconia Ridge, whose influential essays in their book.The sun came out just as I started climbing Mount Lincoln, far and away my favorite peak on the ridge, and the only one that doesn’t have an alternate trail running up it. At 1.3 miles it leaves the ridge on rock steps and lowers elevation at a moderate grade where the Franconia Notch State Park sign can be seen at 1.8 miles.

There are camping options near both ends of the loop, making it a great overnight option for those that would like to experience a sunrise or sunset on top of the ridge.This route will take you across all the major peaks of the Franconia Range. Loop can be done from Cannon Tramway or from The Basin . Lincoln encompasses the Falling Waters, Franconia Ridge, Greenleaf, and Old Bridle Path trails. My spiel to as many hikers as I could talk to was focused on the very limited area of alpine area that exists east of the Mississippi.Therefore, the alpine plants are uniquely present within that small area. The weather couldn’t have been more perfect- just enough cloud cover that sunglasses weren’t required and just enough sun to keep the temps nice while I hiked. The views into the Pemi Wilderness and into Franconia Notch are breathtaking. It features views along the ridge, and peakbaggers can take two 4,000 footers in only a few short miles.
